Hello, my name is Anissa Sedira. Welcome to my private practice. I am a qualified and experienced Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist who is able to support you with a range of issues.
I am also trained, in accordance with UK Adoption laws, to provide support to adult adoptees, birth parents, adoptive parents, and any adult who has lived in a children's home, in foster care or under guardianship.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the body overseeing the counselling profession in the UK.
Have you ever suffered from anxiety, depression, low self-worth, relationship difficulties, abuse, loss, trauma, bereavement, amongst others?
The therapeutic work involves exploring, in a non-judgemental, confidential, private space, your thought, feeling and behaviour processes to identify and understand, amongst others, your self-concepts and core-beliefs, your relationship patterns, your developmental history, etc, plus what occurs between the two of us in the session.
This process, albeit rewarding but also at times, difficult and challenging, involves self-reflection to help you in your journey of self-awareness and acceptance, necessary attributes to gain new perspectives and improve your current life experiences. It can also be hugely empowering and, as you gain more control over your internal world, life changing.
Please get in touch if you have any questions or to arrange an initial appointment.
My work draws on a wide range of modalities like Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Attachment-based theories, CBT, Gestalt, and more, which I tailor according to my clients’ needs. I might also, according to my professional judgement, suggest interventions (to be done in and/or outside the sessions). These are a means to explore further and form an integral part of the therapeutic process.
I also have a wide range of professional and personal life experiences which allows me to work with children/teenagers, adults and older adults (I have an up-to-date Enhanced DBS). I am also culturally aware, open and sensitive to diversity which enables me to work with people from different ethnic backgrounds, with people who identifies outside of the gender binary and with anyone from the LGBTQ+ community.
I am also trained to work with adult adoptees, birth parents, adoptive parents and any adult who has lived in a children's home, in foster care, or under guardianship.
Some other areas I work with (amongst others):
Trauma and PTSD
I work mostly online (due to a clientele based around the UK and abroad) but can also offer in-person therapy in South London. Consulting rooms are located in the Brixton & Herne Hill area.
I also see clients from surrounding areas such as Westminster, Chelsea, Battersea, Clapham, Crystal Palace, London Bridge, Forest Hill, Lewisham, Streatham and Camberwell.
Sessions last 50 minutes and are held weekly at a time and day that suits you best.
Therapy can be time-limited (I request a minimum of 12 weeks) or open-ended (in some cases, it can take few years). This will depend on your specific needs.
The online sessions are held on Zoom.
I charge between £70 and £100 per session.
I also provide discounted rates for individuals who are unemployed, have low incomes or are students.
Please fill in the form below for a free initial 15/20 minutes consultation where we can discuss your needs.
"Anissa has been an invaluable part of the last year and a half of my life. Our sessions together provided me with a completely safe container in which I was able to pour myself without fear of shame or embarrassment, but instead where I was listened to with undivided attention week-in week-out...
The consistency of Anissa’s approach made me feel confident to try to express myself about the challenges in my life, from the most uncomfortable resistance and insecurities, through to seemingly trivial upsets and slights. Through the rollercoaster of emotions and events that led me to the person I am today, Anissa helped me to delve deep into my past experiences, habits and relationships and effectively pulled out a magnifying glass on the most important parts whilst recapping with me.* *The client led nature of Anissa’s approach really allowed me to talk about what I felt was pertinent at the time of our sessions. I soon learnt that this really lent itself to putting a bit of forethought ahead of the sessions, almost like a loose roadmap of sites or topics I was choosing to visit during each session. There is not a doubt in my mind that Anissa helped and supported me to move and grow compassionately through a testing period of change in my life. This truly reinforced and encouraged a belief that strength and understanding is self-generated, that when you need to, from within, you can generate a wholeheartedly life-affirming positivity that guides you out of difficult mindsets or emotional spells.Anissa was always extremely punctual, polite and professional with her practice and communication towards me, for which I have the upmost gratitude and respect. Thank you Anissa."
"Anissa's practice is compassionately challenging. When I focused my care outwards, she directed me back to myself, and shone a light on all the work I was doing--the progress I was making--when I felt I wasn't enough."
"I started therapy with Anissa through Mind when I was at a true low point, after years of self-neglect that I had not even acknowledged. Over the course of a year she guided me, with sensitivity and empathy, through a significant crisis and enabled me to get to know myself and my tendencies, really for the first time.
I found Anissa to be very open and able to consistently adapt to my needs, but also perceptive and not afraid to press me to confront an issue that I would rather avoid. I did not feel that there was any kind of rigid therapeutic technique or framework being applied and as a result I felt both heard and understood. I can only recommend Anissa as a therapist, whether you are struggling with significant mental health issues, or want to work on yourself and learn self-care. I cannot thank her enough for our work together and feel that I now have the tools to lead a more fulfilling life. I can only say thank you again, our sessions really have changed my life for the better!"
"I attended counselling/therapy sessions with Anissa for a year (via Mind) and can wholeheartedly recommend her as an experienced, empathetic and knowledgeable therapist. I found her help very valuable to me when I struggled with anxiety and stress.
I feel like Anissa’s approach is modern but grounded in fundamental psychiatry, she’s also informed on unconventional approaches which positively surprised me, sometimes one has to try a lot of things before finding what works for him/her. Anissa’s attitude is positive and encouraging, I can definitely say our sessions were well worth it!"
"I have started my counselling program with Anissa through Mind in 2020. I found Anissa to be very emphatic, knowledgeable, and professional. I have decided to continue the therapy with her as a private client, because one year of therapy with her helped me a lot. I remember that after the first month of therapy I was feeling relieved...
After each session no sense of loneliness and disbelief was present in my mind for the next days and weeks. Doing therapy with Anissa, gave me the possibility and the tools to understand where the triggers come from and how to start breaking the repetitive events chain that occurred/occurs in my life."
